Questions?

how effective is sunscreen?

... SPF 30 allows 1/30th of UV radiation to hit your skin, protecting you from 96% of rays, while SPF 50 allows 1/50th through, protecting you from 98% of rays

what is the optimal SPF?

... anything above SPF 30 will be highly effective, but only if it is used properly

can you still tan if you wear sunscreen?

... it may still be possible to get a slight tan, even if you do wear sunscreen, but no amount of deliberate tanning is considered safe

why can’t you mix sunscreens?

... because of how SPF is calculated, layering say SPF 15 and SPF 30 does not give you SPF 45, rather you will only get about the protection of the higher value SPF and likely dilute the sunscreen

does Europe have better sunscreen than the US?

... Americans have fewer choices and notably poorer protection than Europeans do from UVA rays in their sunscreen options
